Flipper may look happy but the owners of this home were tired of their dated backyard.  Wooden decking that was falling apart, an old aluminum awning and a tiny concrete walk around their pool had seen better days and it was time for a change.

What they wanted was a paver patio, a raised deck made from composite lumber, a real wooden awning with some substantial columns and a small waterfall and pond somewhere.

This job started late in the season and we quickly encountered a series of snowstorms and some rather frigid weather which delayed things quite a bit.  But there were enough good days in between to get a lot of the major work done.

This is as far as we could get with the water feature (above) and it was the last thing we finished when we came back in the spring.
Meant to be just a decorative feature, we installed an oversized pump to create a real gush of water and the small pond is big enough to accommodate a few goldfish and a couple of Koi.

We completely demolished virtually the entire backyard removing all of the old decking, the old awning and tearing up all of the concrete around the pool.We installed a tumbled paver patio and also created a wider walkway around the pool and we even installed a diving rock to replace an old diving board.
We built a brand new deck and a series of stepped planters using Evergrain composite lumber and we opted for a set of corner stairs to provide easy access from all over the yard.

We bolted a ledger board to the house and installed a wooden awning with roof shingles matching those of the house complete with a gutter and supported by three pre-cast fiberglass columns with capitals and bases.
We finished off the ceiling with vinyl bead board and set in some recessed lights so the space can be used anytime.
The finished job doesn't represent a drastic change but it certainly updates this area.  The awning is a lot more solid (and waterproof) than the old tin awning and the composite deck is virtually maintenance free.  The paver patio replaces an old ground level wood deck and besides creating a more elegant look, the fact that pavers are set over a dry base greatly assists with drainage.
All in all, this project addressed a number of concerns and turned out beautifully!
