Back To Basics

Once in a while, a landscape design is more about just making something look neat and simple than it is about elaborate designs or expensive elements and this job is a perfect example of that.

We were called in after a pool and patio were installed to "do something" with the planting area beyond the falls.  Additionally, the homeowners wanted to install sod throughout the yard, repair and augment irrigation that was destroyed by the pool construction and to add a unique border to the patio.

We came up with some basic plantings including some ornamental trees and shrubs and we extended a small stone wall from the waterfall and added some boulders next to the waterfall to soften its somewhat "boxy" look.

The patio border is a rip rap of Japanese Garden Stone and on the far side, we added some precast concrete stepping stones to access a shed from the pool deck. After that it was just grading and sod installation and that was about it.

Sometimes all it takes is just a few basic things to make a landscape seem "just right".
