This
is a continuation of the first job on our Stonework
page. It's the "other side" of the yard near
the driveway.
The area was
heavily overgrown with bamboo and was essentially
useless. In the upper left corner of the image
above, you can see a glassed-in area which is a hot
tub. There is ample access to it from the rest
of the yard, but none from the driveway.
There
was also a desire to cut a path into the bamboo to
access a neighbor's yard, (good friends and a
colleague of the homeowner), at the rear of this
property. |

Bamboo
was cleared from the end of the driveway, along a
garage wall and about fifty feet back to the
property line where a neighbor already had an
established path on their property.
We added fencing
along a new gravel path we created and installed a
gate to allow path-side access to the hot tub area.
We also installed a set of steps at the head of the
driveway to create a more inviting entry to this
area (above) and the gravel path extends all the way to the
rear property line where it meets another set of
steps (right) which tie everything into the neighbor's yard. |

| We
installed an informal Irregular Bluestone patio,
(above), which is dry set in a stone dust base, to act as
a sort of courtyard for the hot tub. Plantings
surround the area and will create a very intimate feel
as they mature.Stepping stone paths
access both the main yard, (above, bottom right), and
the new gravel path connecting to the neighbor's yard,
(above, upper left). The entire area is gated to
prevent children from straying into the hot tub area
unattended. The connecting path, (image upper
left), was machine cut and topsoil was brought in to
create a curved layout. The bamboo will eventually
grow back into this topsoil area and a plastic root
barrier has been installed along its edge to help
prevent overgrowth. |
