A typical problem with a lot of new construction is that side entrances like this one, (below), are often built quickly to satisfy inspectors and building codes.

Often in such cases, things like design and aesthetics take a back seat to convenience and necessity and the result is something which is functional but not very attractive.

Cultured Stone Veneers, Bluestone Steps

This Cultured Stone veneer was installed over a wooden sub-frame.  We completely rebuilt the stair/porch frame to accommodate our design and sheathed it with cementitious board.
We then installed the Dimensional Bluestone deck and stair treads and then installed a Cultured Stone veneer on all vertical surfaces.  We built an archway over the lower entry stairs to create a sort of "wine cellar" effect.  We then modified an aluminum Estate Fence to serve as a railing to finish the job.
The overall effect is that of a massive masonry structure, but in fact it's really just a wooden stairway!

By using Cultured Stone and other lightweight products, we've developed a technique for turning an ordinary wooden porch or deck into what appears to be a masonry structure.
In addition to it's beauty, it can be done for less than the cost and site disturbance of traditional masonry as well!
