To
create this pond, we first removed two large trees, (roots and all),
and brought in over forty cubic yards of
topsoil and about twenty tons of boulders,
river stone and gravel to create this
beauty.
There are a wide variety of plant materials
here including water lilies, daylilies,
grasses, evergreen and deciduous shrubs
along with some new trees as well. The rocks
have been placed in a more or less random
manner to create as natural a look as
possible. We try to stay away from the
"necklace" look - (ringing the entire pond in
a necklace of stones) and we prefer
instead to create small areas of "shoreline"
where the surrounding planting beds meet the
water without any kind of defining border.
We think this makes for a more organic look
overall and allows the water feature seem as
if it could have simply occurred naturally.
Rocks are set to rise out
of the water and onto land as they would in
nature adding "realism" to this water
feature. The
finishing touch is the wooden bridge across
the pond which we made by hand specifically
for this installation and is the perfect
complement to this design. |
