| It doesn't get
much plainer than this old deck, (left), which is
falling apart and in desperate need of replacement.
Since this was a small yard to begin with, the
homeowners decided to make decking the focal point. They
requested a variety of levels, multiple access, space
for a hot tub, a barbeque, a place for lawn chairs and a
three-season room. |

 |
| A screened,
three-season room, a BBQ area, (top of stairs above), a
planter and a generous foredeck built entirely of
cedar, greet visitors to this new, multifunctional
living space. The ground level deck goes right
through the screened room to the hot tub area, (see
below). The
screens can be replaced with glass panels extending the
usefulness of the room well into the winter months. |

 |
| This
rear house wall, (left),
originally had a small window and there was
no decking at all; it was just wasted space.
We built this small
sitting deck, removed the window and
installed the French Doors and a set of
stairs which provide private access to the
new lower deck and hot tub, (foreground). |

The
new kitchen door accesses a landing, (above
right), which either leads to the BBQ area
outside or the screened room. A storage
space was built under the landing and is
accessed by removing a panel built into the
knee wall. The room accesses the deck
through a pair of doors, one leading towards
the main yard and one leading to the hot tub
in the rear yard. The pergola styled
ceiling, (above left), allows light into the
room and the Plexiglas roof keeps the
weather out.
